Custom Made Foot Orthotics

This is an example of a sport orthotic.

Orthotics can be customized to fit into:

  • Running shoes

  • Dress shoes and some flats

  • Skii or Snowboard boots

  • Hockey skates

  • Specialized athletic footwear

What are orthotics?

If you have pain in your feet, knee or back it might be due to your biomechanics and abnormal foot function.

A chiropodist/podiatrist can provide a complete biomechanical examination & gait analysis to determine whether orthotic therapy is recommended for you. Orthotics are custom made foot inserts placed inside your footwear

There are 2 types of orthotics:

1) Functional

2) Accomodative

How are they casted and made?

Plaster of Paris molds OR a 3 dimensional scans are made of your feet in subtalar neutral and then sent to an accredited lab to be fabricated. The entire process from assessment to receiving the orthotic generally ranges from 2-4 weeks depending on the complexity.

Orthotics are not covered by OHIP. Private insurance companies require a prescription from a doctor or a chiropodist/podiatrist, biomechanical assessment & gait analysis, foot casting and dispensing of orthoses by a chiropodist/podiatrist
